Unusually for Erdem Moralioglu (better known simply as Erdem), often celebrated for his signature floral prints, there were no flowers in his autumn/winter 2011 collection. Instead he turned to art. The life and work of American painter Jackson Pollock gave rise to a striking palette of bright red fabric overprinted with digital abstract splashes that appear to drip like a Pollock painting. Still, the designer's expertly cut, structured, feminine silhouettes harked back to the 1950s. Their elegantly slim, straight clean lines, fitting close to the body, were feminine classics with a modern twist. Erdem says his ideal client is, "a clever person who doesn't care about seasons". Originally studying fashion in Toronto, Erdem moved to London to intern at Vivienne Westwood, going on to complete his MA at the Royal College of Art. His collection debut in 2005 won him the prestigious Fashion Fringe prize.
